Kristen Holodick, to represent the State of Florida at Orange County civil domestic violence injunction hearings.

Effective January 6th, the State Attorney assigned an experienced Assistant State Attorney, Kristen Holodick, to represent the State of Florida at Orange County civil domestic violence injunction hearings. Ms. Holodick was previously assigned to represent the state at initial jail appearances for those arrested on domestic violence charges. She is well known and respected by the judges and by domestic violence victim advocates. We will start the pilot program in Orange County and, if successful, Osceola County will be included in the future.

Ms. Holodick will attend DV Injunction Hearings and act as a facilitator between the domestic courts and the criminal courts. Among her duties, she will evaluate both arrest and non-arrest cases for possible criminal prosecution and provide information to those prosecutors in our office who make criminal charging decisions. In no event will the State Attorney represent petitioners or respondents in these proceedings; nor shall the State Attorney express any opinion or recommendation as to whether a permanent injunction should issue and/or the terms of any such permanent injunction.

In addition, the DV Injunction judges asked the State Attorney to assist them by announcing in court whether the state wants to consider filing criminal charges when there is an injunction violation allegation or if the state will defer to the court's exercise of its contempt powers. Ms. Holodick is tasked with this responsibility as well. It remains to be determined whether Ms. Holodick will actively prosecute injunction violation contempt charges, however, this office will not be prosecuting other domestic contempt matters such as allegations of visitation/custody violations or failure to pay support obligations.
